(Supervised by Brandy Schumann, LPC-S, RPT-S, NCC, PhD.)
Shawna is a Master's Level Intern in the Counseling Program at Southern Methodist University, where she is working toward the completion of her Master's degree. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel Merchandising from Baylor University, and has experience working with adolescents, adults, and couples. Her areas of expertise include relationships, mind-body integration, self-esteem, life transitions, and relational trauma.
Shawna is a warm and insightful therapist who integrates Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) with a holistic approach to mental health. With a deep commitment to understanding her clients' unique needs, Shawna blends evidence-based techniques with a focus on the mind-body connection to foster healing and growth.
Her therapeutic approach is centered on helping individuals identify and challenge self-defeating thoughts, while also addressing the whole person—mental, emotional, and physical. By working collaboratively, Shawna empowers her clients to develop healthier perspectives, modify unhelpful behavior patterns, and cultivate positive, sustainable changes in their lives.
In her sessions, Shawna often integrates practical strategies with mindfulness techniques, guiding clients toward a deeper understanding of themselves and their potential for transformation. Whether through exploring belief systems, implementing behavioral change, or fostering self-compassion, Shawna’s holistic approach encourages lasting personal growth.
