Christina Maxwell
Master’s Level Intern
(Supervised by Brandy Schumann, LPC-S, RPT-S, NCC, PhD.)
Christina is currently a graduate student in Southern Methodist University’s Counseling Program working toward completion of a Master’s degree.
Christina has experience working with adolescents, adults, families, and couples. It is common for Christina’s clients to struggle with depression, trauma, relationships, difficult life transitions, self-worth, grief and loss, addiction, and religion or spirituality.
Christina utilizes Narrative Therapy in her work with clients. She believes that at their cores, human beings are drawn to stories. Stories (like the ones in movies, tv, or books) help us to hope, dream, imagine, escape, and make sense of our experiences. Christina uses “story” or narrative as a vehicle to help clients understand themselves, process difficult events, grow in relationships, and move in the direction of their future goals. She views her role as empowering clients to be the authors of their own stories and to help clients to write and rewrite the stories of their lives in a way that helps them to make sense of their experiences and to move clients in the direction of future goals.
Christina earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs from Southern Methodist University. She also earned a Master’s of Arts in Religion and Theological Studies from Redeemer Seminary. Christina spent the last 12 years working with young adults and adolescents through local church ministries. She has experience working one-on-one, leading groups, and teaching classes with young adults and adolescents.
